Problem Statement

(HMW)

HMW encourage users to take care of themselves in order to foster positivity around digital wellness?

Research

Personal Experience

As someone who grew up in the age of the internet and electronics, I often found myself getting bad sleep quality or even less sleep than was ideal.

Due to the constant exposure to screens that all people face, whether for work or for leisure, we find it easy to overlook digital wellness.

The effects of worse sleep quality can negatively impact other parts of our lives, and yet we rarely disconnect from our devices.

Journal: Sleep Medicine X

“Adolescents with ≥9hs of screen time were 60% more likely to report bad sleep quality.”

National Institutes of Health

“Electronic devices emit blue light that can suppress melatonin production and alter circadian rhythms, leading to disrupted sleep.”

Cloud Charger v1

Iteration 1 - Why it Didn't Work

ITERATION 1

This was the initial design for the cloud charger. Though it somewhat resembled a cloud, it lacked the light, airy quality of a cloud and felt bulky, especially from the top view. This design would only allow the phone to be placed on it in one orientation, so it is not the most optimal for users, especially considering that most people who use wireless chargers place their phone down without regard for orientation.

CHANGES:

  • hollow design

  • rounder surfaces

  • stronger silhouette

  • more focus on lights

  • translucent material

Cloud Charger

Final Iteration

A charger that syncs with the sunshine app and notifies the user via LED lights based on their screen time. By receiving an external stimulus to put their phone on the cloud charger, a user can break unhealthy digital habits.
